Festival of Quilts & Birmingham. Thursday - Saturday

The biggest quilting event in Europe, the Festival of Quilts is held annually at the NEC in Birmingham.

Thursday dawned bright and sunny and with the station so close by we were eager to go. A 10 minute train journey saw us arriving at the NEC. Now, the NEC is ENORMOUS! For those of you who have attended Quilt Festival in Houston – this venue would fit several of the George Brown convention Centre into it.

There were three similar sized conferences going on at the same time and concerts and plays every night.

A 15 minute walk - including travelators, was required to get us from the station to the three halls that housed the festival. Fortunately we only had to negotiate ‘another’ flight of stairs and hop onto the shuttle that would drop us at the front door of the venue. Phew!

It’s just too difficult to explain how big, how many, how much, but it’s big. Everything you didn’t know you needed was available, plus more. The exhibitions were outstanding and the goods available to purchase numerous.

We were early back to the hotel for a canal boat ride, complete with drinks and nibbles, then dinner at one of the many canal-side restaurants, Cote. Fabulous food and service.

Friday & Saturday involved a variety of activities, with some ladies by-passing the Festival and heading off to look at other things.
